Move over, Big Apple. A new poll says the Emerald City may be America’s new favorite city

Seattle has the best reputation of 21 prominent U.S. cities, according to a new survey by Public Policy Polling. The Emerald City walked away with a 57 percent favorable rating from the 900 registered voters questioned. Only 14 percent gave a thumbs-down, but 29 percent couldn’t decide either way.

But 29 percent said they couln’t decide either way. OH, SEATTLE.

Although they’re touchy about Seattle’s soggy reputation, they do seem unusually jubilant — even evangelical — about drier days.

“You’re going to have some sun while you’re here!” said the woman at the Avis counter.

“Can you believe this sunny day?” said the woman at 7-Eleven.

“Hope you enjoyed that sun!” said the woman at Starbucks counter.

"

From Frank Bruni’s lovely NY Times profile of eating in my hometown, Seattle.

Nobody likes dating the person that Seattle has become to Sun. You go out with them once, and suddenly they’re talking about you all over Facebook, posting pictures, always wanting to hang out, and telling all their friends, “Can you believe I went on a date with Sun? Oh man, she’s the best.”

No big surprise Sun is gone, and equally desperate Rain is still here, hoping one day we’ll settle for her. All the while, we’re still talking about much we miss sun.

Come on Seattle! Right now, Sun sometimes feels bad for us and gives us a pity date. That’s not good enough. We need to change our ways. Play it a little cooler.

just stop with the rain, and find me a job, and i will be back in your tree-hugging arms before you can say “the stranger.” (ps- do you know what “the stranger” really is? cause it’s dirty. and hilarious.)
